Strategy and Planning
Strategy is about setting the direction in which the organisaiton will grow, and working out the best ways to get there. Strategy is concerned with the overarching Vision and Mission of the organisation, as well as with the business / operational plans to make it happen. The first directs the second.

The Vision of the organisation is its aspirational statement of a desired future state. It is a statement of intention to grow and develop in that direction - a "guiding light" against which to test decisions of a substantial nature.

The Mission of an organisation is a statement of its purpose - what it intends to do, 'who' it intends to be. This statement is fundamental to how the organisation operates, the markets and customers it serves, and the way it interacts with key stakeholders.

Organisations are created for a purpose – to deliver services, develop products, meet customer needs in some way. As a derivative of doing good work, companies make a profit and this enables them to continue doing what they do best – meeting their customers’ needs.

We all know that price competitive strategies are the least favourable playing field on which a company can operate. Rather, companies should aim to differentiate their products and services from a value-adding perspective. Customers appreciate when employees and organisations ‘go the extra mile’ to not only meet their needs, but exceed them.
